a few of the congress reps and CIA analysts have began talking about this issues but everyone who talk against Israel were immedietly labeled antisemitic over this issue and quickly shun. Israel has ran amock since we gave them this support. Why do we need this relationship with this country so eloquently pursued by the presidents of US? Please don't give me your own opinion without proper support of what you are saying and for those of you who thinks knows it all are very annoying for us who do, so pls. if you know why, pls share this info, if not, don't attempt to enlighten us.

Okay, let's say you've made some wrong assumptions. Israel imports oil, from Mexico and Russia mostly. Yep our best friend in the middle east is the only (or almost) country to not be full of oil. So that cannot be the reason. Could it be that it is just the right thing to do? Radical Muslims shoot rockets across the border and the Lebanese govt does nothing. After a while even Mr Rogers would have gotten pissed. Then a couple of Israeli soldiers are kidnapped. So Israel finally decide to do something. First they drop thousands of letters telling everyone to leave the area because the are going to start bombing. When the bombs finally start to drop the U.S, media acts like Israel started the whole thing.
Back in 1972 when the Israeli athletes were murdered by terrorist, the tactics were crude. Now they have the news stories preplanned before they even strike. They spread misinformation as soon as the event happens. Our media fans the flames because anything that makes this president look bad is their agenda.

Originally, it was because we (americans) felt sorry for the Jews after World War 2. Josef Stalin of all people offered to create a Jewish homeland in the Soviet Union, offering to sell land in central Russia. The offer was declined, the Jews wanted to be in their "promised land", and the current residents of the land "Palestenians" could go elsewhere for all they cared.
I have been to Russia and can honestly say I would probably rather be in a Medditeranean climate, so I understand that. But at the time, oil was not nearly as important (not until Eisenhower started building the interstates) so it was mostly about favors and politcal alliances. Over time it became more about money and oil. Today, I honestly think that no one really knows why we support them so strongly. I am all for a Jewish homeland, and really think PLO and Hamas are scum that always ruin any chance at peace...but I also think that Isreal brings a lot of its problems on itself. They have violated more UN resolutions than any other country (mostly by building on land that isn' theirs). They think they can get away with because they have the support of the US (and to a slightly lesser degree, Russia). And they are mostly right. Maybe that whole area will simply self destruct and take everyone with it, so everyone can start over fresh.

Get a grip, dude. Israel has no oil. Unbelievable. The only reason we bend over backward all the time for Israel is the incredible strength of the Israeli lobby [Apec]. And the religious rightists love Israel because the fact that a nation exists that has the same name as one in the bible makes it easier for people to believe in the bible. That begs a question. I will now pose it. Look for it on the boards, sportsfans.

There is the religious connection between the US/Religious Right and Israel. there is also the historical fact that they were our only real allies in the region during the cold war when the rest of the Islamic world was aligned with the old USSR.

merely placed, Israel is with ease positioned. 50 years in the past, we would have given the jews an element of foundation of their own excellent in our outside, or in Canada, or in Europe someplace (of course this would have deffinately made the nutcase, who's at present the President of the "Islamic" republic of Iran, an highly satisfied human being!), yet we let them construct this Jewish position of foundation close to the Holyland. no longer because it became the Holyland, yet because we knew then as all of us comprehend now, that there are countless undesirable human beings contained in the middle East. And with the intention to "look after them" in the journey that they bypass out of line, the present region and definitely the existence of Israel is taken into consideration necessary and therefore we would want to bypass out of our way, continuously, to help and protect it. with out this "particular association" we may might want to get the approval of Congress and the american human beings each and anytime we prefer to bomb the piss out of Syria, or the Hezbollah, Or Hamas, or certain, even the Iranians. This set up calls for no perimissions, approvals, votes of any variety. only a "little nudge" and the co-operation of Israel. No fuss! No dramas! No no longer something. they're satisfied to do it. Its user-friendly, reachable and efficent! era! And oh, by the way? Being that you declare to carry close the info about the region and Israel, i'd have thoguht that you knew, Israel has no oil!

I would assume partly because of the history of how the Israeli state was created. The US had a big part to play at the end of WW2 in chosing the site and enforcing the creation of the country.

Hello, the Jews are the chosen people and the Americans (mostly Christian) want to make friends with the Jews in Israel, so that when Jesus comes back...he'll have mercy on them.

I don't think it's as much as a relationship as protecting its sovereign right to exist that the Arab League tends to ignore.

I presume the answer is money and politics - people do favors for other favors. That what it usually comes down to.
