Hopefully someone that works in like a Gap or something similar can answer. Of course we see a shirt or pair of pants we like, but how do you know that you look fashionable in public. I wanna go shopping and get nice clothes when I get some money together. How do you know the shirt will go with the pants or vice versa, and the colors too. Usually I would just get a color I like, but dont know if it would look good together.

Hi There
I personally believe that wearing the colors you like would make you look as well as feel good. However, it depends on your age also what kind of prints and colors you should be wearing. I personally favor non-primary solids for shirts or horizontal stripes with a mild background color. For pants, I totally favor white or beige trousers, non-black jeans with a nice fit. However, dark shirts go good with dark jeans and t-shirts go well with any color of jeans. For more formal shirts, though, blue washed, flare-legged jeans look awesome with black formal shoes. And this could actually become a hot, weekend outing outfit.
These are just my preferences as I look at other men in college and at work. Not being a male myself, I might not know too well!!!
I hope I helped though!

opposites or similar usually work like black slacks with a white shirt. I would not wear a dress shirt with sweat pants, but color coding should work.
Guys usually have fewer pants and shoes and most of it ranges from khaki to black with a few blues. For 95% of guys I would advise a lighter color shirt than pants (unless it is a suit).

Buy them both at the same time, and even if one is darker, if it is in the same color tone, it will work. Be careful with reds and pinks as there are so many shades. It's ok to have darker or lighter tops or bottoms if they are in the same color family. It is always good if you buy yellow to wear a white top, or if it's red slacks, a shirt that is white with red in it, or anything that has a bit of the same color as the other will work.

Get a neutral colored pair of pants. That way you can wear any shirt color.

Don't get anything neon colored.

If you stick with neutral colored pants, black, or denim. You should be fine. You're pants don't have to always be perfectly be matched with your shirt.

Watch the TLC show "What not to wear". I get great ideas from that show. Also look at fashion magazines for ideas.

IF YOU STICK WITH BASIC COLORED PANTS SUCH AS KHAKI OR BLUE OR BLACK, YOU CAN MATCH ANYTHING TO THEM. IF YOU ARE BUYING DRESS CLOTHES, YOU WANT TO MATCH THE SHIRT TO THE PANTS BUT NOT SOLID MATCHES SUCH AS BLUE SHIRT AND BLUE PANTS. MORE LIKE A WHITE SHIRT WITH BLUE PIN STRIPES AND BLUE PANTS.

Take a friend shopping with you. Pick someone who's style you admire and ask their advice. Look in magazine, pick what you like and try to replicate it.
