Strange enough but a birth certificate is not proof of identity yet you need one to get a drivers license or non drivers ID card which is valid proof of identity, Go figure but I travel to Canada frequently with just my drivers license.
Update from the Dept. of State Website.
The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. In order to facilitate the implementation of this requirement, the Administration is proposing to complete it in phases following a proposed timeline, which will be published in the Federal Register in the near future.
In the proposed implementation plan, which is subject to a period of initial public comment, the Initiative will be rolled out in phases, providing as much advance notice as possible to the affected public to enable them to meet the terms of the new guidelines. The proposed timeline will be as follows:
* December 31, 2006 - Requirement applied to all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
* December 31, 2007 - Requirement extended to all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel.

If you are coming from the US, you don't need a passport to cross over the border into Canada. It's like crossing to border into Mexico, only colder.

you quite ought to attend till after the toddler is born. She may pick to keep the toddler and he or she ought to o.k. change her suggestions. many females don't understand how they experience till after their toddlers are born. do not rigidity her and be prepared for this. If she does ascertain to provide the toddler up then i do not imagine it truly is top so that you could be on the start certificate. All this youngster's genetic historic previous is including his or her start mom. it truly is like denying the undeniable reality that the youngster became ever followed. no matter if you undertake it isn't any longer your baby, you're purely taking position of the mother and dad because they could't be there and adoption is a very last hotel. a toddler is compared to a puppy you could purely take living house. even as they improve up they're going to start up asking questions.
