It's based off of The Wizard of Oz, but it's done in the viewpoint of the Wicked Witch of the West. The story is also based off of Gregory Maguire's book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The book and show are both excellent.

It's a movie about the lives of Elphaba (Wicked Witch of the West) and Galinda (Glinda) before Dorothy comes to Oz. Really great music . . . Won the Tony Award for best show of the year 2 years ago.
