Actually, you could check the level that your float lets the tank fill, and lower it a bit, or put in a milk bottle full of water, sealed, or two bricks, and join the revolution to save water!

Try slowing the fill at the valve outside the toilet. Your description sounds like the filling valve assembly (ball-cauck-valve) is what is making the noise by slamming off the water fill, not the flapper. The flapper is the cover over the tank drain hole. Maybe the ball cauck-valve needs replacing to another style. I prefer the grey and black plastic type that slide straight up and down smoothly. About $8 at home depot. This Q & A site won't let me spell the valve properly

Put a wather hammer in the system and also Check to see if you have a PRV installed on you main line coming into the House It cant go above 75pounds.
The water hammer can be got at any Home Depot or Lows ECT.

Sounds like water hammering. Either there is air in the pipes or a pipe may have come loose.

sounds like the pipes are cloged and the pressure is causing the shaking and groaning. a plumbers snake could clean it out.
