my husband and I dated for 4 years 7 months 1 week and 1 day when he proposed
we married 4 months 2 weeks and 1 day after getting engaged
we have been married for 4 years 3 months and 3 days.
I don't think that long engagements are for everyone as well as short engagements are not for everyone either. I think that it depends on who you are. My husband and I always knew that we were meant for each other but we didn't want to rush so we just took our time. We didn't need a license to say that he was mine and I was his. I love him and now 9 years 1 month 3 weeks and 5 days later we are still as happy as day 1.
Can you tell I am proud of this?lol

My mother married my step father one month to the day after they met. They were married for 16 years. Then got divorced. He's not my step father anymore. My husband proposed to me 4 years after we'd been together, and as of now we're still very happy. After seeing what my mother has been through I'm a little skeptical about the whole marriage thing, but who knows what the future will hold. I may be married forever, and you may too.

Officially, about 2.5 years, but we'd known for about 6 months before that that we wanted to get married to each other. We'd known each other for about 9 years before that too.
so we definitely knew what we were getting into. We're getting married in March (more than 3 years after the proposal!), so I guess we're at the other end of the spectrum to you and your situation!
It's nice to know that arbitrary time periods mean very little when it comes to marriage and relationships: you just KNOW, really, don't you?

You need to have a fight!! It's not healthy for a couple to not have strong opposing feelings about something! I mean, man doesn't he leave the toilet seat up or drink out of the milk jug or anything?
My husband and I knew each other for about 3 yrs before we started dating, and he proposed to me 2 yrs after we started dating.
Much Love!!

We weren't actually dating. He was interested in me from the first time he saw me & I played hard to get for like 7-9months I wasn't really feeling him. Anyway we went out for our first date which was a total disaster & I vowed never to go out with him again. He asked me out two more times & I turned him down. Then the unexpected happened. I accepted to have him cook me lunch. Turns out he is a pretty neat cook and on valentines i didn't expect anything coz we weren't actually a couple. He sent me champagne, roses and a card. We went out for three wks and he proposed marriage on my birthday. We intend to get married next year around this time.

We dated for 5 months - and were married 5months after that!
Actually - we knew it was meant to be after 1 month.
Less than a year betwen first date and the wedding.
13 years later....still going strong.
Best of luck
