The theory I read is that taxes should only be imposed on America during wartime....okay, right now counts but what about those other years in my life when we were not at war??? Is this true that government tax should only be a war supplement???? Anyone else hear this???

Yes, income taxes began as temporary expedient to finance WW1. However, nowadays we take it for granted that there will be social programs (even Mr. Bush likes perscription drug plans) and a large stranding military so we're stuck with high taxes.

Taxes are a necessary part of having a government. That being said, they have taken things way too far, mostly due to social programs (which are not really the federal government's job). It's especially sad when you realize that when the 16th Amendment was ratified, income taxes were never supposed to be more than 1%.

It started out that way, but over the years, it was implemented because of the economic let-down after the war a long time ago.

tax takes care of the stuff like roads, post office, police, etc, doesnt matter if there is a war, if u want a working civilized society u need taxes. unless u want to pay for your local officals and paving the highways.
