He probably got used to the sweet taste from the get-go (that's why you should always dilute juices down). I would just stop giving him juice... if he's thirsty, he'll drink the water. It's like anything else you introduce to them... they'll hate it the first few times, but as long as you're persistent, they'll adapt. Don't give in and don't give up. It'll only take a few days.
If you need to get the fluids in him, at least dilute the juice... and keep changing the ratio of juice to water each time until you cut out most of the juice. This way it will be gradual.

You should know that too much juice in a young child's diet can cause serious diarehha. A baby should have 2 servings of fruit per day, let it be juice or fruit. I try to make sure my son has 1 cup of juice and 1 piece of fruit each day. Too much juice can also cause serious weight gain (belive it or not)! I give my son the same thing everyday. He gets milk with breakfast, water with his snack, juice with lunch, and milk with dinner. If he drinks anything inbetween it's water. He's always drank whatever I give him, and I like to think it's because I've mixed it up a bit. Hope this helps.

Take the water and put some juice in it. Say in an 8oz bottle put like 2 1/2 ounces of juice and the rest water. Tyr that for a little while but be patient it may take a few times. Worked on my son.:)

My daughter is almost 11 months old and she is the same way. I just give her the gerber juices that are made for babies and water them down. I have heard to put sugar in the water but I dont really like that idea because a baby will get used to water being sweet like that and will never want regular water. Just make sure you don't associate the bottle with juice or water. Cups should only be used for those types of things. Yes im sure our babies will be fine. Just give it time and eventually they will drink water. I have found that my daughter will somewhat drink water if it is in a regular cup like ours, but I have to hold it for her. So you could try that but make sure you have a rag or something under him in case he makes a mess.

I know of a couple that gave their daughter juice all day long, it was always in her sippy cup and she developed a rash all over her body because of it. Juice is better than soda but it's still a lot of sugar. I would try limiting the amount of juice he drinks, maybe try diluting it.
You sound like a great Mom for being concerned!

Babies do not need to be drinking juice at all. Why would he want to drink water when he now has the taste for juice which is nice and sweet??? You need to start watering down the juice you are giving him until it is just plain old water. Why shouldn't he drink juice?? Because you increase the likelihood that he will get dental decay and you are adding extra calories to his diet that he doesn't need.

He'll be fine, but it's not good for him. Water is for quenching thirst. Juice is a special treat. Help him *learn* to like water. You can do it by adding just a bit more water to his juice every few days...today, before you fill his cup with juice, put a tablespoon of water in it. In 2-3 days, start by putting 2 tablespoons of water in it. Keep going until he is drinking water.

my doctor told me that babies should not have more than 4 oz of juice per DAY. So if he likes juice, dilute it with water. Give an ounce of juice to 3 or 4 oz of water, that way he will still get a little flavor, but will not fill up on empty sugery calories.

You'll probably have to wean him down to water only at some point in the near future. Too much juice can be filling, preventing him from getting his nutrition from breast milk or formula, as well as causing weight gain from the sugars (even natural sugars) in the juice. Water and breast milk or formula are best at this age.

at that age, he should be drinking milk, apple juices, orange juices, no extremely sugary juices, and occasionally water. At that age, many of them don't like water either, so he's not the only one. Make sure he gets all his vitamins and minerals to keep him healthy and to prevent him from getting sick
