Ok, the problem is you are a bit confusing.
I think next time you explain these equations in words you should use words for all your mathematical signs. Because writing
C minus s divided by n, doesn't make the C - s stand out, like your explanation does.

So: If you have this problem from a book, and there are no parentheses then you must first divide then subtract with numbers, but you do it in reverse order, when you try to find the number.

So s/n = C - D which leads to s=Cn -Dn or s=n*(C-D)

If this was explained not written and it is meant as D = (C-s)/n then C-s = D*n and s= C - D*n

jgold got it...

here's the solution:

D = C - (s/n) {by transposing}, you get

(s/n) = C - D {by cross-multiplying}

s = n (C-D) {final answer}

ans:

s = C - Dn

Solution:
Bring n to the LHS... Dn = C - s

I think:

S= - Dn +C

D=C-(s/n)
D+(s/n)=C
s/n = C-D
s = n x (C-D)

Are you told to look for s, right?
