I am getting married in Ohio. This will be my second marriage because the last girl just wanted a green card. My fiance knows the whole story Do I have to provide this information on the new marriage documents? They ask about a previous marriage and divorce decree. I do not like to look on my past and do not feel that they should need to know. So do I have to tell them and what happens if I dont? Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks everyone fo your answers. I was also wandering if in Ohio both of us need to be present to apply for the license? It may be easier for me to go first to take care of the legal papers before the wedding do to her working. If not we will work it out. Thanks again soo much!

Uniquerebel556-----I never said I am hiding it from my fiance. She knows all about my divorce and more. Also it is not because I feel bad about it. My ex took $20,000 and also got her greencard. I forgive her but would never go back to her. I try to be the best person I can but am asking this question because I would rather not put it partly because I feel bad including it in my current life. I love my fiance with all of my heart and tell her everything,

Usually, you only need to provide this information if your previous marriage ended within six months previous to your application for a marriage license. As long as you don't have anything to hide, then just be honest.

Good luck!

I was married in Ohio 6 years ago. I can't remember for sure but I do think I had to show my divorce papers, so YES, tell the truth & you apply for the license at the time of marriage. No, there is no need to explain anything about your first marriage either, it is not their business!! You will both also need photo id & birth certificates, make sure all paperwork is either orginials or certified copies. Make sure you take a camera with you. There will be a sign that says "Marriage Licenses & Mental Health", you just gotta get a pic of you & your "wife" under that sign, everyone does. It's really quick, inexpensive & easy there. You can be married by a Minister or a Judge. If you wanna be married by the Judge, you have to go across the street to the court house or if you wanna be married by a Minister, it's done downstairs in the same building you get the license in. Do remember, the Minister performs marriages and any tips received goes into the church fund, so tipping is something to remember to do. Good luck & I hope you have a long happy life together!!!

Yes, you must provide every detail especially when you're getting remarried or just simply getting another boyfriend or girlfriend. The reason why? Old flames never die, and if you keep certain things secret, they can cause problems in future relationships or even RUIN them. Besides, if you open up, maybe your new lover can help you get through the tough times in the past and move on to bigger and better things. And if any legal problems come up, the authorities will know why and try to help you. So no, don't keep these kinds of things secret. Oh and, there's nothing wrong with marrying a non-American, but it would be wise to stick to your own kind to avoid these problems.

Don't know in Ohio----where I am from they just wanted to know to place on marriage certificate how many times the person had been married. You have to show the divorce decree to show that you are legally divorced.

I checked the yes box and had to answer where and when and to whom. No proof was needed. falsification of a legal document is a misdemeanor. Better check the legalities for your state. Congratulations on finding the right person to share your life with.

You are required by law to provide this information. This is required for your protection and that of your future spouse as well as any previous spouse. If you fail to provide it you could be charged with several crimes and the validity of this marriage could be questioned.
