One of the reasons why your cucumbers are curling up is that you probably don't have your plants staked upright. You need to keep your cucumbers off the ground and have your vines on a trellis to support them. Improper pollination and subjecting the young cukes to an obstruction will cause them to curl.

I'd suggest using chicken wire or a 4" x 4" wire supported between two poles and then train your cucumbers to climb upwards. You can use twistems or twine to tie your vines to the wire but eventually, they'll gradually attach themselves and send out the long cucumbers you're expecting to see.

Keep the soil moist at all times or you'll get bitter-tasting cucumbers. The bitter taste is associated to water-stress at any time during their maturation. Since cucumbers are shallow-rooted, I'd suggest you water deeply to promote deeper rooting and to prevent the roots from drying out. Incorporate compost into the soil and use a much around your plants to help prevent the roots from drying out.

I've found that cucumbers prefer a little more nitrogen than other vegetables.

Hope this information will get you the results you're looking for! GOOD LUCK!

LOL, your bad! Never assume your plants will look like the delightfully photoshopped image on the label. Most long and slender cucs are meant to be grown in greenhouses. SOmething about high ambient humidity, controlled warmth (never exceeding 80*F), and reduced air flow conspire to make the pretty long cucumbers. I've never been able to reproduce them w/o a greenhouse.

Question 1,
If you rub them with your hands while they are groing it helps them to get nice, long, and thick. If this does not work you may want to trt marinating them with mucus.

Well as far as question 2 goes.... Shave the skin, ussualy if you convert them to christianity they just circumsize themselves
