Perhaps by definition, it can only really be called a porn movie if it lacks any serious plot. One great movie, though, that was originally rated x, and banned in many theatres and countries, is Bernardo Bertolucci's "Last Tango in Paris". Brando is at the other end of his career, still a great actor, but beginning to fade and he knows it. It's a chilling, disturbing, movie.
Another in a similar vein is Michael Winterbottom's "9 Songs". In my view, it's not as good as LTIP, but it does a kind of phenomenology of the mundane and intrigue in sexual life. Is it porn? It was banned in Australia for having real sex in it. But it's not your usual "porn" movie.
These are both good movies with strong content, and are restricted to adult viewers only. They're worth seeing, IF you are not offended by sex scenes. They are not smut, in my opinion anyway.

Caligula was Bob Gucuioni (publisher of penthouse ) attempt at big buget porn and Midnight Cowboy with Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight was rated X by the MPAA and still won an OSCAR
