I would seek the advice from some persons that have studied the conflicts in the middle east , know how their minds work .I also would invite men known to be good negotiators to sit in on the conversations . Then start to broker a peaceful agreement between the two parties , also send a strong warning to Iran to stay out of it or we will intervene .

Please evaluation your historic previous. 9/11 DID ensue even as George W. Bush became president. (better human beings died in 9/11 than were killed even as the jap bombed Pearl Harbor.) because of 9/11 George W. Bush declared warfare on both Afghanistan AND Iraq, 2 wars which have value the U.S. trillions of bucks and incalculable lives. If I were a conspiracy theorist -- which i'm no longer -- i'd say that there are distinct parallels between the Iranian hostage taking challenge getting Ronald Reagan elected (or Jimmy Carter defeated, whichever way you pick to examine it) AND this stupid, irresponsible movie placing off powder kegs contained in the middle East purely weeks before the Obama-Romney election. you'll call it a very last, maximum determined (and despicable!) act by technique of particular contributors/ supporters of the GOP to get their guy in.

If I were president, I would make it illegal for freight trains to run through cities in south Texas....they'd have to go around.
Then I'd handle the Mid East thing same way as its being handled now.

I would seek a UN resolution in total opposite from those which many seek now. The UN will seek a cease fire which is just going to give Hezzbolah and Hamas time to regroup and make things worse. My resolution would be to ask all free nations to join Israel in the fight against these extremist once and for all; to defeat the armies of those who's hatred of Israel has lead them to war, and to bring peace through the conquering of the enemy - once done the world can begin to enjoy a real peace for a change.

I would pull out of Iraq because the US presence there is not improving life for the Iraqis. This would allow us to focus our resources toward the backers and planners of the 9/11 attack. And Israel? They have not asked for our help, and unless and until they do, we send none.
