Noone seems to understand average speed! It is not computed as "other" types of averages. Do a bit of math with a specific number of miles and then enter the imaginary times.

If it's 50 miles to JAX, he drove 100 miles in 110minutes, for an average speed of 54.545454545454545454 mph. At 60mph, he's driving a mile a minute, so 50 miles =50min. At 50mph, it takes 60min.

let the gap between A and B be x, then the time taken ahead is x/40 and that for go back is x/60. time-honored p.c. = entire distance / entire time = 2x / (x/40 + x/60) = 2 / (one million/40 + one million/60) = 2 / (5/120) = 40 8 mph
