Short for PERusahaan Otomobil keDUA, the second Malaysian's national car maker.
PERODUA's major share holder is Daihatsu, Japan which also onwed by Toyota.
I own a Perodua MYVI, the latest model from Perodua, which is selling like hot cakes in Malaysia. This car is so cool, with 1.3l DVVT (or Toyota call it vvti) 16V Twincam EFI engine, ABS, Dual SRS Airbags, Immobiliser and many features. It is consider an economic car with some safety feature and comfortable space compared to the competitors in its class.

Perodua, acronym of Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Berhad is Malaysia's second automobile manufacturer after Proton. It was established in 1993.
Perodua mainly produces compact cars and therefore does not actually compete with Proton for the same market niche. In the United Kingdom their cars are sold by Proton dealers who wish to attract those customers seeking a smaller and cheaper alternative to the Proton range.

Perodua is a Koren Manufacturer, at the moment only two models are available to buy new in this country, the Kelisa, which is a small hatchback and can be brought brand new for £4800. The second is the Kenari which is a mini MPV like car very similar to the Suzuki Wagon R or the Vauxhall Aglia, you can buy this car new for £6800.
The main focus of these cars is to be as cheap as possible so all creature comforts are taken away, you just get the very bear minimum, not only in terms of comfort but in security and safety as well. If you really wanted to buy a car like this then my advice would be to buy new, you then get the full warranty. Be careful, there are hardly any dealers in this country so make sure you have access to one for servicing and if any thing goes wrong
Try www.broadspeed.co.uk for prices, specs and pictures to get a better idea.
Good Luck
