I recently found out that I'm pregnant and since then I've been going through a lot of changes with my appetite. I'm very nauseous all the time and absolutely everything that has to do with food turns me off. I can't eat anything. I have these cravings but then when I go to eat things, I still find myself forcing even the cravings down. I recently visited the hospital and they told me I'm dehydrated and that I have ketones in my urine. I'm just not having a great time eating. Can anyone help me? --

My appetite didn't change what I ate did though. Sometimes I wasn't hungry and sometimes I was famished but I was like that pre-pregnancy too. I craved a lot of everything. People would make me food mostly dessert. It wasn't until I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes that I had to watch the food I ate. So ladies take it easy, you really don't need to eat for two and I knew this, but my biggest mistake was waiting until I was hungry to eat a bad idea all the way around.

So my advice is 1. take your prenatal vitamin Stuarts is good a thicker coating so it doesn't break down as you swallow and it won't make you nausous....I still take it. 2. Drink 8 glasses of water add a lil lemon, lime or cranberry juice. Ginger ale is good for nausea. 3. Try starting out with clear liquids like broth, jello, popcycles, juice you can see through (no orange, pineapple or grapefruit) if you can hold those down then, 4. try the brat diet: wheat crackers, cereals, breads (lightly toasted), apple sauce, bananas, rice...then maybe after a lil while you can eat a regular diet. The brat diet will help with your ketones issue.

FYI: Ketones are substances that are made when the body breaks down fat for energy. Normally, your body gets the energy it needs from carbs in your diet. However, stored fat is broken down and ketones are made if your diet doesn't contain enough carbs to supply the body with sugar (glucose) for energy or if your body cannot use blood sugar (glucose) properly.

This is going to sound gross but with my first child I craved rocky road ice cream with sour cream & onion chips together. But with my 2nd child I was more like you, sick all the time. Thats how I found out that I was pregnent.The sight and smell of food made me throw up. It got so bad that my mom had to come and cook breakfast and lunch for my oldest daughter because everytime I went into the kitchen I would throw up. My doctor told me that the best thing for morning sickness, was to have a glass of water and a pack of saltine crackers beside your bed. When you wake up that morning do not get out of bed, just lay there for a minute or two,then nibble on some crackers and slowly drink the water,then make your way slowly out of bed. It worked for me so maybe it will work for you. Anytime you feel sick just slowly nibble on the crackers and drink plenty of water .

Eat lots of veggies, it's good for you and the new baby! Drink a little more water during the day, and eat a little less meat. I hope you're doing okay. I wish I could help more,but I myself have never been pregnant, these are things I just heard from other people. Take care.

I had this problem with my first pregnancy. I found that the simpler foods were easier to keep down. Things like a plain salad, no fancy stuff. A piece of fruit, raw veggies and dip. Just really simple raw fruits and veggies, those were less "yucky" to me for some reason...

Drink lots of water..try a sports drink...mash potatoes helped me alot..I was in the hospital 4 times with my last pregnancy..Ice keep ice on hand and just let it melt in your mouth..you really need to get alot of fluids in you the more the better..i also ate alot of small meals like 10 a day so that i was not putting alot of food in me at once which helped with the sick feeling..

Not only did I crave celery... but it helped my nausea. Since it's mostly water, you will hydrate yourself. I sprinkle a little salt on mine... and I eat every part of the celery, especially the leaves.
Give it a try. I'll bet you'll get hooked... and it's healthy.
I'm pregnant with my second... and I'm never without it.

With both of my boys ..I didn't have so much of a hunger for certain foods...I had more of a thirst.....For my first boy it was Strawberry-Kiwi Snapple...had to have them! My second boy is was again Strawberry-Kiwi flavor ..but a different brand ...Mystic
Now the big change was the pregnancy with my daughter....I was always thirsty for WATER...of all things...and I did have a food craving with her ....I needed Banana Splits ....fully loaded.

In the first part of my pregnancy nothing appealed to me "foods" but the further you get in your pregnancy things will get easier. You are probably like me I threw up alot and that can definatley lead to dehydration.. things will get better

you can eat anything you please

i ate alot of mexican food..i craved it

but mexican food/spicy foods make alot of hair on babys head :P its an old wives tale..that i believe is very true..cuz my baby girl has a full thick head of hair and did not lose any..and mom/dad were both born with little to no hair.
