19 because on the 19th jump, he'd be out of the well, so he couldn't slide back 2 feet.

Okay. So we have a frog at the bottom of a 21 foot well. It jumps 3 feet into the air - not bad for a frog that's just fallen 21 feet, but there you go. So, Mr Froggy jumps 3 feet and slides back 2 feet.

Why?

What has stopped him sliding back the whole 3 feet?
There is only one thing that could have stopped him and that's a step!
Why would the builders of a 21 foot well build just one step which is just one foot from the bottom of the well?

Well, they wouldn't would they.
Therefore there must be other steps. One every foot, all the way to the top.

So the answer is 1 jump. After that he walked up the steps.

mmmm?

See, the solution has a small trick. In the last jump, the frog shall reach the ground and there shall be no scope of slipping down. So, in the last jup the frog shall cover 3'. Right?

So the remaining 18' it will go feet-by-feet. So the total jump required shall be 18+1 = 19

Since that's a net gain of 1 foot per jump, I'd say 21 jumps. If a frog does that everyday, I'd have to believe that he's in pretty good shape.

I need to go back to school ................ my poor old brain is undecided over this one.
It's tricky as first I thought 21 jumps forward because if its 3' jumps forward and 2' back that's a progress of 1' each jump. However that seems to logical and easy.

I haven't got a clue.......... but 19 sounds more feasible as it would be out of the hole then.

19
The question isn't phrased very well but as I interpet it:
It takes him 18 jumps and slides to go 18 feet. Then on the 19th jump he makes it to 21 feet and is out.
If he needs to be higher than 21 feet to be out then it will take him 20

would it be 19? Because at 19', when he jumped another 3 feet--he would be out of the well
