In going through some paperwork for a business I closed a year or so ago, I discovered I had a credit balance with a vendor due to a mis-shipment. This fact fell through the cracks as I had intended to purchase from the vendor again. When i called the vendor, I was told the credit was written off and my balance was now zero.
Is this legal? Isn't this my money and not the vendors? This just doesn't seem right. Is this a state thing? is there an SOL that I am not aware of? We are both in CA and my understanding is there isn't one. Other than a lawyer, can anyone point me in the right direction online?

I cannot re-order from the vendor as I closed my business and have no need for the product the vendor sells on a personal level

ok you need to order from the vendor again and with you payment submit a credit meno for the lost shipment, as long as you have back up (proof of the missing shipment ) the vendor is sol. he will be in the same boat that you are in now.
