when people stare at you and don't look away, what do you do?

Stare back. Eventually they'll either look away or initiate conversation.

I go up to them ( if you are asking in a sense that we don't know the person that's staring) and pretend that I know them! I'll ask all sorts of general family questions and some about days past when we were in high school. This usually takes care of it and for some odd reason ,, they leave! Imagine that.

Why is that? Not only do I find it rude but really it just creeps me out especially if it's a woman!
I usually mirror their actions by doing the same exact thing which is by staring back until someone looks away.

U may give a short smile & walk away after that UNLESS he/she approaching you ! May be he/she knows / ever seen you some where before .

If the staring fear you..then just ignore & pretend never notice....

Counter-stare at some part of the person's body. It'll activate his self-conscious and he'll look at him/herself, after which it's your turn to stare back.

Smile and say hello. Sometimes it just appears that they are staring, but are actually deep in thought, staring into space, not at you at all.

Happens to me all the time. I had some tumors removed years ago, now my face looks like I had a stroke. I learned just to grin and say hi or just keep going. I don't let it depress me any more. I am very lucky to be alive and a good person inside, that is what counts. every one tells me. Pem

I hold up a magazine and pretend to read or I pretend that I am a celebrity and used to people staring at me...or I decide that they are in a trance or blind...and ignore them.
