Do you think it's going to get worse or better? I personally cannot stand ANY of the newer music. My radio station is always on the classic rock station.

nahhhhhh dude nirvana rocked man. music in the 90's seriously wasnt that bad. Now all this Paris HIlton rap ghangsta **** sucks.

I think music is going through a phase right now where there are fewer singer-songwriters than ever before. I also think that rap gets ignored -- a lot of it is just a long string of cusswords, but a goodly bit of it is quite innovative: internal rhyme, syncopated beats, some middle eastern and world beat influences. Rap is also clearly having an effect on other musical styles such as Bhangra, etc. Trance and electronica: similar situation -- a lot of really useless sampling going on, but some good innovative stuff from bands like Morcheeba and Thievery Corporation.

Give it five years or so... it will either be somewhere worth going or it will be totally in the toilet.

I think music videos have killed music, because people pay more attention to how they look than how they sound. Or to borrow a line from a song from the early 80's: video killed the radio star.

You might've missed the memo, man: Music died 16 years ago when some punters called "Nirvana" decided to play ragged grunge crap and subsequently killed the music scene entirely.

Additional Note: Nirvana rocked about as much a diesel engine.
