We already have an awesome art program. We are looking for a way these folks to help our small rural community out. Or just great unique programming ideas. You input would be appreciated. Thank you.

I teach a low functioning group of Jr. High age special ed. kids and I got a grant to purchase a die-cut machine to cut letters and shapes out of paper. We made a little business out of it. I called our project "The L.E.T.R. Project" (Letters for the Education of Task Reponsibility) and the kids would take orders from schools, day-cares, church groups, etc. to cut letters for them to make signs, posters or letter matching games for the day-cares. The kids would cut the letters, do "quality control" (match the letters to the order) and package the letters for delivery. The only cost to us was for the construction paper and I found people were more than happy to donate as much as we needed.

I really like that letter - cutting idea!!!

The primary program in my area has the clients running a gift shop and plant nursery. Some make decorative crafts and other gifts (one client for a while loved to bake... and was very good at it, too!), pottery to hold plants for sale, others spend their time caring for the plants, etc., and some of the higher-functioning ones run the store itself.
