The best president was - and I assume you mean of all time - Abe Lincoln. He helped hold the country together during a time of civil war and freed the slaves, thus ending that shameful period of history. Had Lincoln not been President the Confederate flag would be flying over Washington today and the country would probably be divided into several small nations.

The worst president is the current occupant of the oval office - good old Georgy boy Bush. Let's see what he's done: he's gotten us into a war we shouldn't be in since he announced on his first day in office he was going to get rid of Saddam Hussein because he had a contract for a hit out on daddy - he just used the 9/11 tragedy as an excuse....the economy is tanking - have you looked at the stock market lately?....Gas prices are at an all-time high while Big Oil is raking in billions of dollars in profits...the country is divided more than its been since the VietNam era...the budget surplus he inherited from the Clinton administration has turned into the largest deficit in history....he's a functional illiterate who has made the nation the laughingstock of the world and no longer respected.....need I go on?

A good president would be any of the following: Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, John Kerry and John McCain. All of them are people who won't take any b.s. and would get this country turned around.

Best - Lincoln, Washington, Reagan, Bush 43
Worst - Jimmy Carter (easily)

FDR was actually not a good President...but he did keep getting reelected even though this country was in its worst depression in history. FDR was not someone who made things happen...all he did was react to things that were going on.

He did not do a good job preparing the U.S. for a war we knew we would have to fight.

And, with the implementation of the Social Security program, all he did was create dependency on the government (which was actually the idea, as far as he was concerned...he wanted people to be dependent on the government for survival).

Condi would certainly be a great President. She's already done a good job in cleaning out a lot of dead wood in the State Department, although there's still a lot to be done there...

"Who cares" mentioned Obama as a possible... you heard it here first...Obama will NEVER be the Democratic nominee... why should the Dems nominate a black candidate when they already get 90% of the black vote? They have nothing to gain politically by doing that... The only way Obama ever gets a nomination is if the Dems feel they have no chance of winning (as they did in 1984 with their female VP Candidate, Geraldine Ferraro). Bottom line is, the Dems don't really WANT a black person to be their actual leader...as shown by their making Howard Dean their party chairman, rather than any number of far more qualified black candidates.

Here is my ranking of Presidents in my lifetime:

1. Bill Clinton
2. George HW Bush (because he didn't do anything)
3. Gerald Ford (again, because he didn't do anything)
4. Jimmy Carter
5. Ronald Reagan (George W. Bush-lite)
6. George W. Bush (and probably the worst President in the history of the US, even more so than Harding)

Who could be a good President? John Edwards. He's a moderate Democrat who appeals to both young and old, rich and poor alike. He would return our nation back to the socially-liberal, fiscally-responsible (moderately conservative) nation which advanced our nation so well in the 90's.

It's generally acknowledgeded that Lincoln was the best president closely followed by Washington and FDR. All three lead during stressful times using innovating methods and powerful personalities.

Worst is gernerally bounces between Harding, Nixon, and Grant. Their administrations were increadibly corrupt and failed on many of their challeges to lead. Bush is too early to tell but he looks like he may be in the running for the bottom.

John Edwards currently looks like a good presidental possibility. Charismatic, smart, and innovative he could lead were others have failed.
