I have tried everything I can think of, but he just acts like he don't care to ever take a shower, or brush his teeth. I have to force him to, watch him do it, and argue with him all the time.

Rude or vulgar responses will be reported.

he is about to start his second year of middle school and he has been told girls won't like him if he smells bad. He has been told all about cleanliness is next to godliness, and the risks of infection, etc. but he still don't care.
***the rude/vulgar comment was because I am serious and want real advice.

He's about to go to middle/jr high school. Trust me, when he starts looking at girls or they start picking on him due to his lack of hygiene, that will change.

First of all threatening to report people who post answers you don't like is just plain stupid. Your asking for people to give you vulgar answers just by making that statement. So next time leave out the threat and more folks may help you.

As for your 12 year old son needing help with his personal hygiene..... As long as he has the proper training in cleanliness and upkeep its just a matter of time. At some point he will meet a girl and he will start shaving, bathing, wearing clean clothes and deodorant, brushing his teeth and wearing cologne. Its a natural point of transition from child to teenager.

Let him know that keeping clean is important and that it is expected of him. But don't threaten him or try to force him. He will rebell against it as a matter of point. Trust me. You'll soon have way more arguements over more important issues then taking a bath.

When I was in fourth grade my Dad told me the teacher called and told him the other kids were saying that I stunk. How embarrassing.

I was just being lazy on the deodorant as I'd just started needing it and didn't bother.

I was so embarrassed that I never forgot again. Your child is a little older, but if nothing else works, tell him you got "a call" from whoever (your choice). It sure sprang me into action!

I have 2 boys and have struggled with them both. The oldest is 20 and on his own now and I think he finally got it, seems to take better care of himself now.

The younger is 14 and I have to do the same with him as you do. I have tried the girls like you better, etc, and that works if we're going somewhere, but if not he just doesn't care. I'm hoping he'll get it someday too.

here you go. explain how important it is for hygeine. to not get sick or infected. explain your principles to hygeine. its not my intention to be rude, but tell him that girls dont like guys that arent hygenic. it worked for my little brother who was 13 at the time. now he is 15 and it still works.
