quite young... certainly by 12 i was playing it quite regularly with my father, and his father, too. sadly, i haven't played for a ling long time.... i will have to remedy that!
i learned that there are consequences to each and every move, and that one cannot possibly see everything that could happen as a result of one's actions. there is always room for the unexpected.

I started playing somewhere around age 8. I had a good friend who played and he introduced me to the game.
As an aside, I have deliberately never become what I call a "book-reading" chess player. I'm sure I could be much more formidable, but I would rather see what I can come up with on my own.
Also, if you like the simplicity of checkers but the strategy of chess, try Go, that game is great.

properly I discovered to play about at age 8. I play once in a lengthy time period and discover it an exciting sport. I dont have a score yet to get one i imagine you would possibly want to play an sport around the globe or regardless of a set on your community.

I learned to play chess at age 14. I am still not good at it (I'm 25) and my younger brother beats me every single time. haha

About 8. Then I lost interest because it wasn't about solving actual problems, it was just a matter of memorizing moves and my brain was full of more important stuff, like girls and engines.
