Americanized means that you accept the ideals of being American - life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, etc; that you hold fast to your old culture traditions while absorbing new ones; that you become civically active by exercising your right to vote; and that you uphold the laws of the government while living your life in the way that you see fit.
I realize that's a vague definition that encompasses a lot; however, America is a country founded on the idea of a melting pot, of assimilating the idea of the "American dream" while still upholding traditions from whatever old country you may have come from. America is also a country whose citizens are quite capable of holding two contradictory ideas in their minds at once: hating the idea of the American dream while striving to achieve it; saving the pandas while destroying the rainforest; giving to the poor while slashing welfare costs. So perhaps that's the defining quality of becoming an American: you can hate the country while loving it at the same time.
