The lines on the finger tips and inside palm are to creatte friction. Friction (the resistance encountered by an object moving relative to another object with which it is in contact). Friction is esssential for gripping and holding things. if our palms or fingers did not had these lines, we could not be able to hold things, apply pressure on surfaces and make certain things in our control.
Another function these lines play are to detect criminals. this method is called Fingerprinting. Fingerprinting is the method of identification using the impression made by the minute ridge formations or patterns found on the fingertips. No two persons have exactly the same arrangement of ridge patterns, and the patterns of any one individual remain unchanged through life. To obtain a set of fingerprints, the ends of the fingers are inked and then pressed or rolled one by one on some receiving surface. Fingerprints may be classified and filed on the basis of the ridge patterns, setting up an identification system that is almost infallible.

Look at your hand and then open and close it. Notice that those lines happen at the places where your skin folds? That's what they are...fold lines!!! Check out the inside of your elbow...fold lines!! The more fat your body stores, the less fold lines you have, because your skin stays stretched when folded. When you get older, you have more fold lines for the same reason your t-shirt is wrinkled when you shove it in a drawer and leave it for three months.
And you thought we were permanent press...NOT!

The lines on your hands have one function. Flex your hand and you will see that your hand flexes along those lines. without them it would be uber uncofortable to hold and grab things. We get them while still in our mothers womb becuse our hands form in fist's and our skin forms around them. Do you get it? There is nothing paranormal about your hand it's just part of being human.

Like our fingerprints, these lines are formed by the swirls of amniotic fluids surrounding us during our prison time in mama's womb (the worst "time-out" ever; seriously, I was SO bored. All I did was swim around, kick mom a few times, and sprout a limb or two, for *nine whole months*.)
Not coincidentally, this is why identical twins do not have identical fingerprints, footprints, etc. I love movies where they mess that one up.

The reason we have lines on our hands is flexibility to stretch and to hold things. Another has to do with criminal scenes.

They are built-in wrinkles in the skin in our hands to allow for the extra slack our hands need to grip, move, hold and manipulate items in our environment.

The lines are created by the way you bones move and the skin around them moves with them.

It's just the way your body stretches the skin...you'll notice lines almost anywhere there's a joint in your skeletal structure.

They help us grip items. If we didn't have the lines, our hands would be smooth making it difficult to grasp items.
