I was watching a history channel thing on potato chips.... (*how does this relate?) well, they showed chip dip had a beginning, ...what??? I thought it was always there,, not really -but you see what I mean, things we think are/were always there...aren't, nor will they always be, so it got me thinking there is a lot we take for granted. NOW -be honest, what do you take for granted, the answer can be deep or not....

Time...my time on this earth. It's entirely too easy for me to put things off, to assume that there will always be tomorrow to get this done, read that book or talk to that person. I forget that there are a limited number of tomorrows and waste the time I have today.

Entirely too deep, but it's the truth.

This is going to sound shallow, but...

I take it for granted that we shouldn't take things for granted.

This is much deeper than it seems. In fact, one respectable way of defining philosophy is that it is questioning and investigating things that we normally take for granted.

Every statement we make and question we ask takes something for granted - contains one or more concepts that we normally use without much thought about what we really mean by them.

Philosophy can be an upsetting and even a dangerous occupation. Plato suggests that Socrates was given a death sentence largely because he went around Athens showing people that they didn't know what they claimed to know and thought they did know. He showed them that they took even their most cherished beliefs for granted and had not really thought much about them and whether they made sense.

No wonder they told him to go and drink poison.

To be honest, I do not take anything at all for granted. I know everything can be taken away. Air, for example, most take for granted. But it can be polluted, or poisoned in some other way.Live should not be taken for granted. You can die, and you have to fight for life. Freedom can be taken. No, I do not take anything at all for granted. I have experienced things I took for granted taken, then returned, such as my health, my joy, my underwear, pleasant suroundings of trees, a nearby beach. And so since then I do not take ANYTHING for granted, and so appreciate life all the more, and live each day full and musical and exuberantly.

The fact that when you post a question on here that you expect a reasonable answer or one with some common sense, knowledge and thought. But due to taking for granted that people are caring and compassionate, I get let down by their dirty thoughts, language, disgusting rantings, and just plain ignorance.......

Life in general to be honest. If I had to narrow it down, I would say my father. I take for granted that he will always be there. He's getting old, and he won't be around forever, I need to see him more, and call him more often!!!!!

air conditioning...I live in a very humid place where we (the city) use more engery per person than anywhere else in the US (Houston) and our ac broke last summer and we had to ride out the humidity with nothing but fans. It was awful.

That when I get fired
I won't get invited to a circle-jerk.
And standing there with our ***** hanging out
Someone won't say ... haha You're fired.
And then we'll all laugh.
And then they'll all say, no really, you're fired.

My senses...sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. Can you imagine life without one of those?
