Some cows are grass fed and others are corn fed. The cow converts its food into flesh just as we do if we are a vegetarian or not. If we choose to eat beef (not all of us do) then we chew it up with our teeth and digest it. It goes slower through our digestive track than other leaner meats or plant matter because it is harder to digest. Some people for health, moral or religious beliefs choose not to eat mamals, cows, pigs or any meat or animal product. Not all people consume cow flesh. Some of us like me for instance choose not to eat mamals. I tried being a vegetarian and had too much trouble, but I can succeed without eating any red meat. I wish I could be a vegan, but my body does not work well with that. A cow has a different type of digestive system that can handle digesting grass. Our system cannot digest grass, but it can digest other plant matter. Hope that got to your question.
Different animals have different teeth and digestive enzymes as well as types of stomachs that determine what types of foods they can digest. For instance at termite has an enzyme that can digest wood. Other animals cannot digest wood, but for us it serves another purpose and scours and cleans our intestines, so it is good we do not digest it. Hope that helps.

Cows convert grass into energy and nutrients. Cattle have a ruminant system that is better able to convert the grass into all the nutrients their bodies need.
We actually eat more steers(castrated males) and heifer( females that have not given birth) than cows( females that have given birth). Most cattle that is harvested for beef is feed in some kind of feedlot. They are usually fed corn and other grains in this feedlot. These grains help the cattle grow faster and are more easily converted into tender and flavorful meat.

The business term is "value-added". Cows take up lots of grass, and they have bacteria and organisms in thier stomachs that turn grass into energy and proteins to make meat. If we take care of the cows, we get enough meat to live on, and some more cows.

It's called the food chain... do some research on "food chain" and you'll see how it all works out.
In simple, cows can process the grass better than us because we lack 4 stomachs. And, the easiest way our body can get energy is by processing meat. Hence, cows heat grass and we eat cows.

This is a real attempt at answering your question. It is because of their biological makeup. Just because a person would try and exist only on, e.g., cheese, or ice cream, or mice, or berries, or say a Navy pilot has to bail out over a jungle and survive for weeks until he is eventually rescued, he is trained to survive on certain types of bugs, fish, plants, berries, whatever. Does that make him turn into some sort of freak because of his diet!? Of course not. It is because of the way every biological entity uses the protein and carbohydrates that they assimilate into their systems. Whatever "foods" that are eaten by humans are already ideal to satisfy the need for additional nutrition, and our superior knowledge, rather than other animals lack of our level of knowledge, sets us apart. If not, we would decide that rattlesnake meat was really good to eat, poison glands and all. Bah!!! And since rhubarb tastes really good, when cooked, and lots of sugar is added, then why not just add the green leaves to the mixture as well? Because just about everybody's grandmother has told them that the green parts will make you very sick or maybe kill you that's why! So there you have it. Figure out the rest yourself I guess. I'm running out of room and time.

Well they are mammals. And animals that are mammals are made up of meat of some sort because they have a skeleton and the muscle has to cover the skeleton etc. So no matter what the mammal eats it has some sort of meat product on it. Just like if an animal decided to eat you, you have meat on you even if you are a vegetarian or a meat eater.

Well, because their body is made of fat and meat......not grass. Chickens are eaten as meat, and they eat bird feed....
What they eat, prior to when we eat them....doesn't matter too much.
P.S. Cattle graze on grass, but they eat more than just that. Most'd be extremely unhealthy if that was all they had access to.

hamburgers!
Actually they do eat stuff other than grass--- A cow that eats only grass can make about 50 glasses of milk a day.
A cow that eats grass, corn, hay and mixed feeds can make about 100 glasses of milk a day.
