I need to set up a virtual classroom that will house 8 local PC's in one room. Students from all over the country would remotley access one of the local PC's and the instructor would be able to view the progress of each student while they are connected.

I have the local environment ready to go, I just need a easy solution to allow people in the windows network to connect to the local PC's...

If they are going to connect remotely over a high speed connection, you can try using VNC. It can be slow, but you will be able to sit and watch what they are doing.

You may also be able to use remote desktop, its built into windows, which works a lot better than VNC.

There is also logmein.com. Have a look at it, our group is switching from using VNC to logmein.com. Anyone can connect using a web browser, and you just have to install a small app on the local machines.

I believe what you're referring to is remote computer assistance.
This is accessible via through the "Start Menu" if your OS is Windows.
Simply click on "All Programs" and select option for "Remote Assistance".
A Help Centre feature will guide you through the rest of the setup.
To further achieve this you'll probably need to communicate frequently with a built-in headset with mouth piece to monitor their (students) progress.

You can set up a web ex account. I think the address is webex.com. If not you can google and find it. It is reputable, we use it all the time at work. So much that it is on my favorites list (reason I'm unsure of web address).
