Probably released pets from sometime back.. could be the offsrping of domesticated animals or escaped pets or farmed rabbits. Most of the rabbits here are brown and brownish sometimes grey.

In Central Florida, they were probably released or they escaped. Most of the rabbits here are gray or brown.

there are numerous rabbits in the central florida area, due to release, escape etc. most think of the small brown marsh rabbits when they think wild. if the rabbits appear healthy and well fed don't worry about it. if they're too friendly towards people or other animals you may want to think about catching them and turning them over to a wildlife rehabilatator. i know people in the Melbourne area if you need further assistance please feel free to contact me.

Probably so. Wild rabbits living in that area come in one color, and that is cottontail color or "chestnut agouti" if you want to use the correct term. It looks like a mottled brown from a distance. They are most likely released domestic rabbits or their descendants.
