I need help with this poem writing?

Question

Using Sexton & Plath's poems as models, write a personally reflective ORIGINAL poem. Your poem must be at least 20 lines in length and should include figurative language. While content is wholly up to you, the grader will be looking at poetic style, length and use of figurative language. Your lines can be of any length, you can use a single or multiple stanzas, but you may not write in prose.

What is prose? how do i imitate the style of these two poets?

first thing you need to do is look up some poems by the authors. secondly 'prose' is the opposite of poetry, it would be narration, or reading paragraphs in a novel...

I suggest you read at least 5 poems by each author, you can find them by searching poemhunter.com and seeing which ones strike you. as you read their poems think about what they are saying and keep a pencil and paper handy and write down what you feel as you read their poems. use those words you're written down to fashion into a poem. its kind of cheating, but it will give you a beginning for writing poetry. try this a couple of times with a few poems until you get the hang of it, then think of some topic that is personal to you, and do the same thing... try to describe how you felt when that 'thing' happened.

remember it doesn't have to be in proper formatted sentences (that would be prose) but try to group the thoughts together and add a little detail to it. and it doesn't have to rhyme either!

Sylvia Plath's poems almost always centererd on her struggle with depression. If you really want to understand Plath you only need to read two poems,"daddy" and "Lady Lazarus".It's also intresting that Plath was mArried to Ted Hughes at the time of her death. Hughes' second wife also killed herself.

Go online and google poetry and then their names and see what comes up. Prose is the style, there are different styles of poetry. You are to study their style and then write your own poem based on that style.
