i have to disagree. everytime a world cup is won by a country, the players on the team are always different. so the brasil that won 5 cups in the past is not the same as the brasil today. and thats the same for every country.
i think currently, though brasil is supposedly the #1 team in the world, i think argentina has players with more talent....brasil has kaka and ronaldinho...and some older players who are probably going to retire...and face it, ronaldo just isnt what he used to be.
argentina on the other hand, has more young talent than brasil with messi and tevez, among others....these players are only going to get better with time. though argentina didnt get as far as brasil did in this world cup, i still think that argentina plays more as a team than brasil. brasil has some top scorers but i wasnt impressed during this world cup.
argentina is certainly not jealous of brasil's success because we have succeeded in our own way too. we see brasil as direct competition and always will. what may look like aggression to you is merely a different way of playing the game.
brasil dances with the ball, argentina kicks the ball.
maradona is an amazing player and though he got caught up in a huge drug ordeal, you cant deny his talent...hes seen around the world as one of the best football players the world has ever seen...
LASTLY....though brasil is argentina's opponent...keep in mind that if argentina happens to get emilinated, we root for brasil...its always good to keep the love amongst the south americans.

Pretend, for just a second, that you have an older brother/sister. Their room is full of trophies and they're the most popular kid in school. And then there's you, the younger sibling. From the very beginning you have the perfect older brother/sister to compete with, and they usually win.
Now put on the football perspective. Brazil is popular all over for their football of days long gone. They've won 5 cups, and they are the hurdle every South American team needs to go through at some point. Argentina, as the eternal second-best team in South America, ALWAYS has to compete with Brazil. To beat them is a delight, a sign of improvement. To lose to them is a sign that once again, we weren't good enough to beat Big Brother Brazil.
We don't hate them, and we'd rather support them than any team (except maybe Italy) when we're disqualified, but there is no way around it: Brazil and Argentina are always competing for the #1 and #2 spots, and to lose is a very bitter experience. We don't have that much to celebrate in Argentina, so football becomes an escape, a reason to cheer every once in a while.
Also, 1978 was not the most controversial Cup. There were several Cups where the home team won and due to suspiciously refereed matches, they won a Cup that shouldn't have been theirs. The 1978 team had its own stars, Maradona or not. See Mario Kempes, for example.
In 1986, Argentina did not reach the semifinals by scoring hand goals. They scored perfectly legal goals UNTIL that infamous semifinal with England, and in a moment of insanity Maradona punched the ball. We scored, we won, boo hoo, the English went home and hated us forever. Maradona proved that he didn't need to score with his hand (see the Goal of the Century), and he didn't take drugs *all* his life.
I'm curious. If Argentina can't be compared to the mighty Brazil, who can?

Argentina is a highly underrated team whereas Brazil is highly overrated. While both countries do have strong national teams, Argentina will always be compared to Brazil no matter what; Argentina will always be Brazil's "little sister" and never given its due as the only real South American soccer threat to Brazil.
Brazil's heyday was during the era of Pele, but those days are long past. Brazil now has a certain reputation in its favour that seems to paralyse weaker teams; although Argentina is a tough team, it lacks such a reputation.
The past few World Cups is demonstrative of the weakening state of Brazilian soccer. They lack cohesiveness and team unity, something which Argentina has more among its players.
The Argentine team is still rather young and is in a rebuilding phase. On the other hand, Brazil needs to start from scratch and start fielding players who will work together for the glory of the team, not for their own personal glory.
Personally, I think Argentina needs to give itself some time to develop it young stars and just focus on being the best in South America, as the rest will come with due time.

dude its very hard to even win 1 world cup. well mighty brazil lost to france who 'only' won the world cup once, compared to might brazil wining it 5 times. and any other country would be jealous of players winning the world cup
and argentinians are more jealous because they are fellow south americans.

i do not agree with you even i am not argentinian . as my info Argentina won the world cup in 1978 in Mexico not in argentina >>second thing you cannot say one mistake done by a refree lead to win , if so Italy do not deserve to take the cup since the unfair penalty against Australia in last minute .
why we like Agentina team , because they do not play individually unlike Brazil

argentinians are not so much envious of brazils success as they are of the way brazilians approach football, which is the same way they approach life, with a certain sense of unimportance and carelesness. for argentinians every simple league match means life and/or death, and it ends up showing in their football sometimes. it gets to them. and they cant really understand how brazilians can be so succesfull at this game when they refuse to dramatize it like argentinians do. im talking about the players obviously, not the media or fans.
