It is not that easy to eradicate flies from the hawker centres. Firstly, being an outdoor setting, the place will be open to assault from anything around, maybe not just flies but also other insects.
Secondly, we are in the tropic, so we get flies year round. As long as the weather is conducive, the flies will breed and the cycle continues to put new flies into the environment.
Cleanliness can only do so much. It just diverts the flies away to another place. But the moment you have your food, this will attract them back.
The only way to minimise is to eat indoor where you can shut out the flies. Unfortunately we do not have cold season that will provide some respite from them.
There had been much work to clean up the state, but it will not be easy to eradicate the flies. There are still nature reserves that the flies can breed in, even if the housing estates can be kept clean. But the fly problem is not as bad as in many other countries. I do find it bearable. I do know of places where you worry about kamikaze flies in your soup, dishes and drinks all the time while you are eating!

That is because many of the tables are not properly cleaned or at least not cleaned fast enough. The individual stall also like to stack the dirty bowls and cutlery in front of their stall. Not to mention the litter on the floor that doesn't get cleaned until the end of the day.
If you want to eat somewhere clean, buy back or go to the foodcourt. Thats what I do.
