Mom (65) is diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse, she got fever as a young girl. Recently she is having problems with excessive sweating, heartbeat, and very heavy depression. Does anybody have experience with this? I wonder if she could travel by plane without troubles, and start light work out?

My mother was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse when she was in her late 40's. She had rheumatic heart fever as a child which can cause a stenosis of the heart valve, thickening of her mitral valve. Strep Throat also can be a culprit for this defect. I think your mom can have a long, full life, if she takes care of her health. It's a good thing you found out when you did.
It's always good to check in with her doc when she travels or does any work. If she gets the o.k. from her doc to work, it could help with her depression. A support group might help, folks with her same diagnosis.

I have the same condition. I was born with it, and it was diagnosed when i was 29 yrs old. The only problems that I have is that if I am going to have a surgery the anesthesiologist has to know about my condition, to monitor it during the operation and that when i go to the dentist I have to take an antibiotic one hour prior to my appointment.
Your mother probably was born with it and has lived with it for a long time. It is not that dangerous, but it is always good to be sensible about what you eat,to exercise, and try to learn to control stress.
It is always a good idea to go to a cardiologist as part of your mothers regular checkups.

If she isn't seeing a cardiologist regularly, she should be. It can be very serious, and needs follow-up annually.
