Flun, even members from both parties are present to count the votes. That's a little hard to believe.

Currently, it is not reliable because there are no papertrail and their proprietary software prevents accountability and reliability of the vote count

No less reliable than local party officials handling the vote counting, like they have forever.

Apparently, Stalin never said 'It's Not the People Who Vote that Count; It's the People Who Count the Votes' but it's a telling quote nevertheless.

In India we have found them to be VERY reliable. MAinly because they are manufactured in the govt. sector and not by private parties who may have truck with the politicians. We also have a very strong election commission. Another reason for huge success and fairness is the bad track of paper system where boothcapturing and bogus voting was very common

I don't trust them. The guy who owns the company was chairman of the Bush re election committee in Ohio, he promissed to deliver the state for Bush and he did. His company also makes bank atm's and they have NO problem producing a paper trail, a transaction receipt, so there should be one for voting, too. No good reason not to. Plenty of bad ones.

The answer is... not very. I would say it is just inviting trouble. I am too aware of all the tricks the Bush administration used to steal the past two elections and believe me, the republican swine will do anything to keep their facist puppets in place.
