There's numerous pro' and con' to this issue. If they're capable why should they be restricted?
Besides that, what useful purpose did that bike rider serve? Getting hurt now may have saved his life!??? And the person who hit him, 3 mins later could have killed someone or he himself may have been killed! Maybe hitting the cyclist threw off the timing and prevented something much worse to one or both?
As for your comments on a state wide smoking ban.... Smoking and/or secondhand smoke isn't any worse than the exhaust from all the vehicles which are on the roads today! Or the filth from all the airliners, or from the factories etc etc etc.... Why ban just one thing?
Your reasoning: "It would be for their own good".... In that sense may or may not be correct? Whereas automobile exhaust, the same applies yet that's alright????? Another point, you yourself (if you're very fortunate) will be "old" one day!

I think after we all hit a certain age we should have to take a driving test and an eye exam. I'm not sure what the age should be, but at some point people should be retested. After I get older I would even be willing to go retake my drivers test. This would show who can still drive responsibly and who can't. If they fail the test they lose their license so their license isn't being revoked based on age but their driving skills. It'd be the only fair way to go about this.

I don't neccessarily think they should yank their license when they hit a certain age, but I do believe they should make them get eye exams every year (at the DMV) and retake the driving test they give teens every 2 years. At least. Some older people drive just fine. My hubby's grandma is 83 and looks and acts like a 60 year old. Other's aren't so fortunate.

Maybe we should institute road exams for license renewals. That way, if someone is incapable of driving, at least they won't have a valid license. Not that not having a license or insurance is a deterrent for some people.

If the driver in your scenario was 18 instead of 75, would you feel the same sense of imposing a ban??

You don't read enough of the right things my friend
How about judging the teens on the highway today and all the accidents they have
I think the old people should continue their life and the age of driving should be 25,NOT 15-16
There are More teen drivers today killing off inocent people than Old people

Most old people shouldn't be driving, they are a danger to themselves and others, if a 16 year old was driving dangerously they wouldn't even stop to think about taking their license away.

some old people are good drivers and there is nothing wrong with that. but there are some that have no clue what they are doing. at about age 50, i say you should have to retake a test just to show that you can still drive.

I've always thought it would help the driving thing and the employment issue if we put the unemployed to work "Driving Miss Daisy".

I think it depends on each individual person... some elderly people shouldn't be on the road (because of impaired vision, etc.), but some are OK to be.
