I lived in the town that you mentioned in your previous question about 10 years . Yes, it is a clean town (depending on where you live). It's a nice mix between small town & a bigger city.
The cost of living certainly has to be cheaper than in IL.

Don't defect!
I live in Illinois - we have the nation's most fertile ground right here in central Illinois. We have better schools, better sports teams, better weather. Okay - maybe the weather is the same - but Indiana doesn't have any baseball teams...we've got 2! 3 if you live near St. Louis and root for the redbirds.
Honestly, I don't think there's much of a difference once you get south of I-80. Both states are pretty damn rural. If you likve north of I-80, then it's a whole different world. I personally love Chicago to death and can't see moving away. If you're going to move, I say make it count - don't move to Indiana...move somewhere with mountains or beaches or something. :)

I used to go to Indiana to run races, and I liked it a lot. If you like the country in the Midwest, you will enjoy the country there.
Indianapolis is a big city which offers what any other big city offers as far as malls, shows, movies, etc. Plus the Indianapolis 500 and other races are great if you are interested in cars or probably your husband or boy friend would like those races.
We could also talk about the professional b-ball team and they probably have some type of soccer and baseball teams.
So, the question is what are you interested in. You could look up the home page of the state or of Indianapolis if you would be near there to see what type of dancing they have if you like dancing. Just check out what activities and features of the city would interest you.

What do you like to do and does Indiana offer that? Can you find employment in Indiana in your field of specialty? What kinds of recreation is available there? Do you like to fish and hunt? Is that available in Indiana? Do you like to skateboard and do they have skateboard parks there?
These are the questions you need to answer so determine if you might like it there. Whether somebody else does or not is immaterial. Will you?
One good place to start is to check it out on the web. Here's the state link: http://www.state.in.us/ See if it looks like the kind of place you would like.
Next, if it looks attractive, take a vacation and go there. Travel around as much of the state as you can. Do you like what you see? Is the cost of living acceptable? Are the people friendly? Are the cities what you expect? Are the roads in good shape? What are the schools like? How about the parks? Libraries? Are the rivers and lakes clean?
Answer these questions and you will have the answer to your question.
good luck.

I used to live in Chicago (born there) buy my new husband has a house in Indiana. I hate it here..Along with low cost of living come low income people.low paying jobs, etc. I'm outta here asap!!!!There are some very nice areas in Indiana, but for all that you might as well stay where you are as those areas are comparable to Illinois in housing costs.

Well...from what I hear...Indiana not only has a lower cost of living rate...but a lot of industry is going there. You will have a better chance of getting a job there then here in Michigan.

All states have good and bad areas - usually smaller towns are nicer than bigger cities. Check out some places, you can contact the Chamber of Commerce of various counties/cities.

its very pretty in the laporte/rolling prairie area near michigan. kinda country/boondocks, but close to several towns with adequate shopping centers. it is pretty cheap to live out there. it is also still pretty close to chicago, they have an airport in southbend, good restaurants all over the place, tons of antique places. beaches, dunes, parks, woods, i love the area. good luck with whatever you decide!
