A bit disappointing to be sure.
Why did they have to portray Lois Lane as so miserable?

Not the worst Superman movie, Superman 4 holds that honour.

However I was disapointed.

Firstly where did they spend the $250 million because I did not see that much on the screen.

Secondly, the odd homage to the original film would have been fun. However this film had far to many.

This movie was basically a rehash of the first Superman movie without the heart. It just did not grab me emotionally.

The actors all did fine jobs with the material they were given, I didn't even have a problem with Lois Lane - the source of many complaints I have seen.

So I can only really blame the writers and the director, the story was uninspired and the pacing of the film left a lot to be desired.

As someone else has mentioned the death of Superman storyline would have been an ideal story for Superman's return to the movies and we now have the technology to have created a believable Doomsday.

I only hope that the lacklustre performance of this movie has not killed off the chance of another.

The Special effects were great! BUT - the casting director should have been locked away on some drummed up charge.

If after analyzing the movie and one finds that the movie should have been a smash hit but stinks - (storyline good) then it comes down to dialog. If the dialog and storyline is good then look at the actors and timing. If those click..., then it is the CHOICE of actors.

In the Movie World (or TV for that matter) if the cast do not integrate well it screws everything up. What I mean is this; While the actor in Superman Returns would make a great Western movie star, or maybe a gangster or even a starship captain - he makes for one awful Superman.

This Lois and Clark choice just could not convince me that there was ever any romance and what little was there was forced by the director (in my humble opinion).

It comes down to casting. I pray they come up with a better Superman on any future movies because this dude stank. Put him in a spy movie - he'd do great perhaps as Bond, but not the Superman!

WHO'S TO BLAME FOR THE DISAPPOINTING SUPERMAN RETURNS MOVIE?

IT IS YOURSELF AND NO ONE ELSE.

No offense meant, and I am not dissing you or whatnot. I am just making a sensible statement based on my knowledge which is backed up by SCIENCE.

If you ever happen to take up a decent and high-quality PSYCHOLOGY class, you would get to know that everything in this world is interpreted by a person's brain, such that things like a movie becomes bad or good or whatsoever depending on how a person's brain perceives such a thing.

It very much is like the cliche "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." What a person perceives as substandard is not always the case for the rest of the human population. Although you and a bunch of other people may agree in thinking and saying that the Superman Returns movie sucked, your perception/opinion will always differ from another person's opinion/perception.

And, I know you're aware of another cliche, "You can't really please everybody."

In my impartial view, the movie Superman Returns has pros and cons. As to whether the pros are less than the cons or vice versa, I don't really have time to actually count them literally. What I just want to do is weigh in the pros and the cons before saying right away that the movie was the worst movie ever.

A pro would be that the movie placed emphasis on Superman's tendency to become/act like more of a human despite what his true father tells him (Superman's dad, Kal-Al basically reminds him that he's not a human being in spite of being raised by a human being). It just shows that Superman still has vulnerability despite his superpowers and superstrength. But on a random thought, I still side with Superman in the Batman-versus-Superman debate. Ok, this is so random, I'm sorry.

Back to what I was discussing, another pro would be that the movie was not pure action, was not pure drama, was not pure dialogue, and was not pure eye-candy. There was a bit of action, a bit of drama, a bit of dialogue, and a bit of eye-candy in this movie--all rolled into one.
But like what I was trying to say, this movie also has its share of negatives/cons.

The cons would be that the denouement was such a let-down, the climactic descent was such a downer, and the ending was not in any other way what I had expected.
I mean, the movie offered a lot of cool and spankin' new special visual effects, but then I was left wanting more by the somewhat slow development of this particular movie.
Also, I was badly waiting for a Lois-and-Superman kissing scene, which actually did not happen. And I was waiting for a revelation of Clark Kent's identity.. you know how it goes, I wanted Lois to at long last discover that Clark Kent and Superman are one and the same... well not 100% the same coz Clark Kent does intentionally deviate from Superman's strong character to avoid detection. Also, I was anticipating for that scene wherein Jayson (Superman's son) would know that Superman is his father as well as know that Clark Kent and Superman are one entitty. What actually happened in this movie was that there was little talk time between Clark Kent and Lois Lane, as well as little talk time between Superman and the kid... the only time Superman got to actually pour out his feelings for his one and only beloved son was when Jayson was asleep.

But despite all these, I am satisfied in watching a movie that embodied depth and entertainment... a movie that gives space for imagination and reflection. I am also satisfied in seeing hints of several more movie installments to this Superman flick.
There are more movies to come which is what I'm glad about... in fact, the next installment to this movie is set for a 2009 release and it's in the works already! [YIPPEEE]

So, it all comes down to one idea:
You can say what you have to say,
You can think what you have to think,
But at the end of the day,
It's you and your brain that judges a thing... it's how you perceive things that makes a movie good or bad.

After all, if there's nothing to compare the movie to, then no one could say that such movie was bad or good, coz then what would be your definition of quality and what would be your standard of comparison? Nada.

I agree in a lot of ways.. Wish they had stuck to the original plan for a new Superman movie

DOOMSDAY.. the story where Superman dies defeating a monster of extreme power.
And his return from death.

I took my 5 year-old to see it yesterday. I thought Lois Lane was all wrong, but apart from that I thought it was ok. Better then the old ones
