In NASCAR pit stops, when they change tires, I see the crew using impact wrenches to loosen the lug nuts, and then use the same impact wrench to tighten the nuts on the new wheel, but where do the lug nuts go? Are they attached to the rim? Are they held in a special socket on the impact wrench?

The lugnuts are held onto the wheels with glue and in the right place when they put on the new tires. The lugnuts are just dropped when the take the wheels off. They are collected later.

when they take them off, they just fall on the ground and are swept up after.

the new ones are glued to the rims in place for the impact wrench
