Robert met a woman named Mary Poole, in school, when he was 14 years old. They have been together since and were married in 1988. Smith wrote "Lovesong" as a wedding present to Mary.

Robert found his love at fourteen by the way because he is an early bloomer. He didnt need school or training. Hes a natural.
