Hey "Father" UpChuck, why should breeders be allowed to divorce? That seems to indicate that marriage is in fact not all that sacred. By the way, did you found that "church" yourself. You do know that the name "Catholic" is already taken, right?

Patricia D, you answer does not make sense. You did not address the issue of divorce.

Finar C, you are entirely correct that there is so much going on the world that merits more attention, so why are Congress and the President wasting their time on silly legislation like this?

men and women are allowed to divorce, but it is for men and women, not other perverted sexual relations

Are they really wasting time banning stuff or are they just saying it to make people think they are going to do something? I certainly think that if you were that concerned about gay marriage, you would also be just as concerned over divorce. Getting married, then un married and then married again makes marriage look silly. What are the words you exchange? Ban divorce too if you are worried. I say that they are just SAYING what most people want to hear. They haven't done a thing with abortion and they won't do a thing about gay marriage. They are losers

If heterosexual marriage is so sanctimonious, then why the divorce rate? We have been married nearly 40 yrs and were married b in city hall . Maybe that's why we are still together because ours is a civil union and not "SANCTIFIED" by a religious sect. The only peop;e I hear complaining are so called religious quoting the Bible. I have yet to hear of a non-religious reason to ban Gay Marriage. Whay happened to the separation of Church and State"

Do what you want between your bedsheets with whomever you like.

It matters not to me. But why do you so desperately need the approval of the state, the church, etc.?

Frankly, it reeks more so of cultural acceptance, than any desire to actually marry. In addition, we all have much bigger problems at the moment. Stop making your personal sexual preferences the focus of your's and everyone else's life. Stop being a drama queen, crying about your inability to have a culturally accepted wedding ceremony. People are freaking dying in poorly fought wars, the environment is falling apart, the percentage of people in poverty grows bigger every day...All this and more... and where do you stand politically??? YOU are focused on the political issue of whether or not you can rightfully wear a wedding band on your finger.

How effing narcissistic. How effing INSANE!

Banning divorce would probably be as successful as banning alcohol was.

Regarding gay marriage, in case you haven't noticed, there are quite a lot of Democrats who are also banning gay marriage. In 1996, about 2/3s of all the Democrats in Congress voted for the Defense of Marriage Act.

It's not people staying together they're talking about. It's just another case of the government wanting to come into our homes and regulate just how we live our lives.

Homosexuality offends them, so they want to make sure that they can't go through any sort of union. Never mind that most heterosexuals are perverted and promiscuous. They want to pass judgment on others.

So what if it's considered a sin in the bible? Doesn't religion also teach that if someone sins, they go to hell? Doesn't it tell us that the true judge (God) will deal with the sinners? So why then are we mere mortals on earth getting our bloomers in knots over something that frankly is none of our business?

I think there are more important things in the world to worry about than who is having sex with whom.

Excellent point. Prime example why Republicans and the Church shouldn't govern the USA. Pure hypocrisy right there.

Because then you crossing the line between Church and state. The Republicans and Pres. Bush just happen to think marriage is a solemn and meaningful committment. So do I.
