Nice statement, but it is not always true, however. Some of the "most fortunate people" contribute millions, and sometimes billions (Ted Turner) to worthy organizations. Some of the "most fortunate people" run corporations that sponsor worthy organizations. It is only the "self serving people" that are screwing things up. I don't see any problem with making money. It all depends on what you do with that money that matters.

I have to say I kind of agree. I look at it not as "privatism" but as "self-serving". Seems like a lot of vocal groups want instant gratification, instant results and instantly be heard and heeded. Not going to happen, but they are still pushing their agenda as hard as they can.
I'm not sure the "greed" part isn't all rolled up into the "self-serving" mentality...

I agree with the statement, generally. The greed is not simply individual, but institutional as well. And there really are rogue governments with the same outlook.

Yes, it is threatening to ignore our common progress. Ultimately the ignored jump over the gates we build and come in and disrupt the solitude we have created.

it is true as far as it goes...this is not the only threat to our world, and there are always exceptions to the general rule; some of the "most fortunate" ones are also those who are doing much to try to improve world conditions...think of Oprah, for one.
