When I was younger I remember learning that it meant to be happy. Then I learned what it meant as used today. I don't think I have ever used that word though-b/c I thought people would think I was weird. I remember seeing that work in poems, songs and stories. I even know a man whose first name is Gay. That is so strange to think of what he must think of his name now. I feel sorry for him in a way. I think that it is bad that the term gay is referred to as homosexual. I don't see why that word is used in general now to mean that and who decided or started using that word to mean anything other than happy. That was wrong and that word will never stand for happy again. Its new definition is corrupted and I do not think that meaning will ever change at this point. Good question! I always wondered if anyone still used that word to mean happy too.

No because now "gay" does not mean "happy" the way it did "back in the day", gay now means homosexual. So I prefer to use the word "happy", just so that things dont get confused.

I've been speaking fluent french (all most as good as I speak English) since I was very little. "Gay" is happy in french. So is "contente" but I say I use them equal. So I use it when I'm speaking french. When I'm speaking English, I don't really use "gay" meaning happy.

Umm well, not but my cuz's middle name is gay so I do not think of the word in that sense. I guess I am just weird.

You can't anymore. You wouldn't want to give someone the wrong idea. The word "gay" has been hijacked by queers and they have turned it into something dirty.

As a joke, yes. I have also had a character of mine (I'm a fiction writer) say it to mean happy...but he was gay...and I don't mean happy. ;)
