once a child turns 18 they can join whether you want them to or not. I would let my child join as I find no other job as honorable as a person willing to serve his country. I agree with the war on terror, and it is something we will be fighting for many years.

The war on terrorism is a fallacy like the war on drugs. Do not confuse Iraq with the war on terror as they had nothing to do with it. It was created to keep the populace in line as you will read in many answers here they have done a great job selling. But it is a never ending war and the only way to combat terror is though good intelligence and defense against it. No I would not let a child of mine join the service at this time. Unless we are attacked and then I would also join or do whatever I could to help.

No, but if he or she insists, the best service to be in at this time is the Air Force. Discourage any Medical field and Bomb disposal. In fact ask for options on possible job titles and duties. Ask questions and don't believe anything the recruiter says unless it is in writing. Avoid what is called SAC, Strategic Air Commander. This Wing or Organization of the Air Force is chicken ****, in other words it is all polishing brass and shinning shoes. Tactical is a better Outfit or Wing of the Air Force. It is like having a job you go to five days a week.
Totally avoid the Marine Corp and the Army.

The navy is a good choice also. Ask for a a variety of Job titles and training programs, assignments and locations you will be stationed at.

Get it all in writing. They need your son or daughter or possible you if you want to go in, just joking. But your kids are no joke. The War time military can not be trusted. Get everything in writing. They offer a signing bonus, but even 25000.00 thousand dollars is not worth going into combat. No joke!!!

Avoid Iraq at all costs. It will ruin your kids life. For this reason, stay away from the military if there is any chance he or she will end up in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Good Luck. Air Force of Navy

I think it is an unattainable goal. Peace trumps terrorism. If my child was raised by me to see a benefit in fighting to reach a Godly goal, I will have missed my mark. I would wonder whether the person asking me for approval was in my care. Children who go to war, don't need a parents permission. They are old enough, so yes I'd let them, but I would question my effectiveness in communicating the power of Leading others towards Peace.

I think the War on Terrorism is much like the War on Poverty....it needs to be at the forefront of our minds...something we are actively trying to eradicate..whether ultimate eradication is possible or not.

No, I would not let my "child" join the military. But fortunately, the military does not accept "children." It accepts young men and women who choose to enlist.

Yes, I would let my 18 year old make up his own mind to join the military if he wanted.

I would enlist myself, if I weren't 45 and unhealthy.

I think its about time we get serious about it and start litering the sand with dead islamic corpses. I have children, one turned 8 today, and I bought him a gun for squirrel hunting. I am going to continue to educate him as to the nature of this radical islamic menace, which I feel will be with us for decades. When he gets 18, if he wants to fight, I'll slap him on the back and feel proud. My other son is a few years behind him - and ditto.

We must be willing to sacrafice if we are going to eradicate the earth of this scum. I just don't feel that America as a whole has been asked to sacrafice yet. Of course those fighting and their families have, but I mean the whole country. In order for people to come to that readiness, they are going to realize that we are in a real war - some call it WWIII - and that it is going to last a long long time unless we get serious and do what it takes.

When it starts, I'll tell you. As for the second part, if they decide to join, it's their choice. I can't, nor won't stop them. I won't fight in a war I don't believe in the validity of. Call me what you will, but I'm not putting my body on the line for nothing.

Absolutely has to be done...now, not later. While I would not like for my son to sign up for the armed forces, at least I would know he's choosing to fight for what he believes in, protecting the freedoms of our country and the world's.
