Popularity is a term that has several meanings. There are different types of popular and most of them are about being cooler or richer or better than another person.

Instead of trying to be popular I think the better thing would be to be nice to everyone. Who cares if it's the skaters or the jocks or the hics. If you are nice to everyone and friendly you will have more friends in more groups than the popular kids. So then who is really more popular?

Here's some advice. Don't cling onto one of the popular kids in hopes of advancing your popularity. They'll hang out with you, use you for awhile, and then ditch you if you don't figure it out quick enough to ditch them first.

Don't commit sexual acts with popular guys in hopes of becoming popular. They'll tell you everything you wanna hear the first night, and then ditch you and tell everyone what a whore you are.

And regardless of what other people may tell you, even if you do dress like the popular kids and do everything you think will get you the respect you deserve, these "popular" kids will only find something else to talk about. "Well, she dresses okay, but she's still a dork..." Trust me; I know (even though I've never been desperate enough to try the second option).

Just be yourself! Eventually, you'll run into people who like you for you. And if you dress up, dress up for yourself, not for other people. By the time my graduation came around, half the "popular" guys at my school were asking me out. Turns out, they liked me the whole time, and they were just too scared to ask--scared of what the other "populars" might think. See...? Most of the time, they're not even strong-minded enough to think on their own. You'll meet better people in college. Call it a "clean slate."

Remember; if people don't like you for you, they won't like you if you change yourself either. It's best to weed these fake people out of your life early on, so that when the REALLY bad guys show up, you'll know how to handle it.

As horribly cliche as it sounds, dude, be yourself. Don't buy in to that whole popularity thing.

Think about it - after high school no one really cares anymore, and you don't see half your friends again. Even you make close friends with people because of your popularity, it'll be gone the moment you start being yourself again.

i've been popular sense the like 2nd grade no lie. all i did waz be nice let very one know that i can help them if they need it. if someone gives me attuide or yells,hits anything at me or my friends i will kick their butts cause u shouldnt treat people that way. but being popular isnt great. i used to have about 13 close friends. but then one day i said to them that were to rude to people. being popular isnt really a good thing now and then. u pay if u r rude. oh i only 3 best friends right now.

Wow...tough one. I would say that you find one of the popular people and become friends with them. Do what they do, be trendy, fashionable, all that. But in the end, don't compromise your beliefs. Nothing is more valuable than your true self, and you shouldn't give that up for anyone.
