COLD water! I swear, it took me over 50 years to figure it out, but cold water and a plastic twistie, crocheted ball-scrubber thingy. (Do you know what I mean? Like a Chore Boy, but plastic.) Or cold water and a plastic pancake turner.
Then you can rinse the plastic thing in hot water.

awwwwwwwww guys cooking are so cute!!! macaroni and cheese with real cheese!
hm i know you said you've tried hot water, but have you tried soaking in hot water immediately after cooking, while the pots are still warm? then the cheese should come off easily. if you don't like making a mess of your "scrubbies" you could use disposable sponges or just soap and your hands until the cheese is gone.

Rinse them while the cheese is still hot, then soak in soapy water to remove the little cheese residue left. It won't be too messy then.

Try the microwave. Watch it and make sure you don`t burn it. You also could add alittle milk with the cheese and it would dissolve faster if you cut the cheese up in small cubes.

rinse the cheese with hot water before it drys. Don't wait until the next day when it has hardened to the pot!

If it is really messy and burned, stick it in the freezer, then scrape it off with a plastic paint scraper.
