My parents (especially my dad) are racist conservatives who don't have anything nice to say about anyone who isn't White or Christian. They believe poor people just don't work hard enough and have little compassion for those who are less fortunate. I love my parents but could not be more different than them.

My growing up in N. Ireland. My mother was pro british, my father just told me stories about what happened when the black and tans turned up - they were not good people, they were the worst part of the british army. I also forged my own opinion when I came to the USA. I am LEGAL and came here through the legal system. I listened and watched and read and decided that Ronald Reagan and the conservative republicans were where my thinking is. I knew about Jimmy Carter before I came here and could not believe a large country like this had him for a President. He is a good man but was not a good President - too liberal and therefore made big mistakes all around.

I never really discussed politics with my parents until I was about sixteen. They are both conservatives that came from a liberal family, and since our family is huge and very close, I always heard both sides presented and argued. I am a conservative, but it's not because my parent's are-we still disagree about certain issues. I am a Republican because that is the party I can relate to the most, the party I agree with the most. So I suppose it's a little of both, but I chose my political party because of my beliefs, not theirs.

My dad is conservative, but not George Bush neo-conservative. My mom has no political opinion, but i think she's a lefty. I used to be very right wing until about 8 years ago, now I'm completely left leaning.

I follow the way I chose. It is true that my parents are the same party as I am. But I was a diferant party and came back to the GOP for personal reasons.

Both really. As far as what I think to be right I figured that out on my own. My parents are helping me understand more about taxes and stuff like that.

My father forged mine. He was conservative and I was dead set on being the opposite of him. I was liberal early in my teens into early adulthood. Now I'm almost my father!

I followed my parents' thinking. They didn't "shape" my political leaning; I chose to follow theirs.
