sitcoms are for everybody. Soaps are for women. ...and I'm sure there are quite a few men that watch ,too. But, soaps are like reading romance novels. Everyone is gorgeous and perfect, and life is like a fairy tale. Where else can someone drown for a week? (and you have to wait over the weekend to find out what happens!)Sitcoms, such as "Raymond" are more real to life.

Sitcom: generally airs during primetime for 30 minutes. Comedy revolves around a "SITuation" such as a family, a workplace, a coffee bar. Soap Opera: Generally airs during the day (although some might consider Dynasty, Dallas, etc. soaps) for 1 hour (sometimes .5 hour). These are generally dramatic, focus on lost love and rich people, etc.
