i got my pills through my family GP (general practice) doctor. my doctor didnt ask me for a medical history or anything, which i found to be wierd because every site i have been on says the process involves more then just a pelvic exam. im callin my GP to be reffered to a gyno, (because my family is on medicaid, that is how i went about getting it on my own)

you may just need a different pill. did you get your pills through a doctor or a friend? If a doctor..then go back and tell them what is wrong they will possibly give you a different prescription. If it is a friend...STOP taking the pills. i know that lots of women take the same pills but it is NOT safe to take anyone else's prescription. Go to a real doctor, or planned parenthood (though you need a guardian or parent there) and they will get you on the right pill. If you can't get in right away use a condom, until you can get your own prescription. It is just safer.
i don't know you and please don't take this as me being condescending, because this is not how this is meant...but i am very proud of you for taking the initiative to protect yourself. i wish other girls your age were as safety conscious as you.
Good luck!

First of all, I want to say that I'm glad you decided to be responsible enough to make your sexual health a priority, and I hope that even though you're on a hormonal birth control, you're still using condoms to further protect yourself.

In regards to your question, unfortunately, yes, this kind of reaction to hormonal birth control is normal. Depending on a woman's chemistry, she will react differently to a different set or hormones presented to her body in birth control. What I would suggest is that you should try a different form of hormonal birth control, perhaps a low-dose method. I know this switching will be difficult because of your age and you not wanting your mom to find out, but if possible, that would be your best option. Some women can not find a hormonal birth control that works best for them and they react adversely to all of them and can't use hormonal methods at all; I don't know if you're one of these women, and you probably won't either until you've tried a few different methods.

It could just be that this birth control isn't right for you. I was nauesous for a week on the first birth control I was put on. Seeing a gyno is a good idea- they can probably match you up to a better birth control for you.

I agree, this sounds normal. I woke up pretty sick to my stomach for a few days when I started the pill. If it doesn't get better soon, you might ask your provider to change to a different type of pill. maybe a low hormone pill? good luck, and stay safe. And girl, use condoms anyway, you can never be too safe - this coming from a woman who got preggo on the pill.

This is VERY common so don't worry.Birth Control, taking for the first time, have a lot of side effects. Your body will get use to it. Wait for a few weeks, and if you have the same effects then get help.

IT HAS BEEN 10 YEARS SINCE I USED THE PILL, SO THEY HAVE CHANGED. I USED THEM FOR 10 YEARS. THE PILL MAKES YOUR BODY "THINK" THAT IT IS PREGNANT. THE NAUSEA AND HEADACHES ARE DUE TO THE EXTRA HORMONES IN THE PILL. THAT IS A NORMAL SIDE EFFECT. YOU SHOULD ASK YOUR OGBYN ALSO. HOPE THIS HELPS.
