What do you all think of PM Harper's solid support of Israel? I have always been supportive of Israel as a nation, and that they have the right to defend that nation, but I think their recent actions were beyond extreme and I feel uncomfortable with Harper's stance. It's a Canadian tradition to approach conflicts such as these with a neutral stance with an eye towards peacekeeping. Now thousands of overseas Canadians are in danger and our government doesn't seem to be capable of doing very much about it. I'm not sure how the evacuation will go tomorrow; I pray everything will go smoothly, but I get the feeling there will be numerous problems. I don't have very much confidence in our government right now=(

"dude": um, I take it you're American? You're part of the reason most of the entire freakin' world hates America right now. And you think your country is so on top of things? Do you remember Katrina? One of the very first rescue groups on the scene was from Canada and saved 119 ppl while the US government sat on their asses. So don't tell me we don't have any effect on the world and that our military sucks. OUR military isn't riddled with murderers, rapists and torturers, not to mention several incidents of "friendly" fire. The only thing the American military has over ours is excessive funding and an endless resource of disposable bodies.

Canada on the forefront of stopping tyranny? We were right there with Britain fighting the Nazis for a good 2 yrs before the US even decided to get involved. Canada liberated Holland and played a crucial role on D-Day. It's quality vs quantity.

Btw, is Bush not the tyrant?

Israel has done everything it could to keep the peace. They gave up chunks of their territory and even bulldozed their own settlements and turned the land over to the Arabs. But the suicide bombers kept coming in and the missiles were still being fired into Israel. As a last resort, they even built a wall to keep out terrorists but that didn't work either. Now the terrorists have kidnapped Israeli soldiers and continue to bombard them with missiles. Nothing will satisfy them except the destruction of Israel. Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East and is surrounded on all sides by countries that allow terrorists to control them, the same terrorists that attacked us, Britain, India and other countries. Israel has a right to defend itself. They are doing what we should be doing -- destroying terrorist headquarters and training grounds.
